About Us.

Earthrise is the first interscholastic student-led environmental journal. It was launched on December 24th, 2018, fifty years after crewmate Bill Anders of the Apollo 8 Mission captured a world-changing photograph of the Earth rising alone above the lunar horizon. The shift in perspective that Earthrise offered was a powerful spark that shaped the contemporary environmental movement. 50 years later, we hope to be a part of the discussion that will drive us towards a better future.

Through essays, news, poetry, reviews, nature writing, interviews, political activism, photography, and more, we aim to challenge complacency about our current environmental crises—the greatest challenge of the contemporary era—and inspire new ways of seeing our shared world.

Event Offerings.

Throughout the academic year, Earthrise hosts free events for society members. These offerings include launch parties, workshops, fireside chats, pub socials, film nights, and more. Additionally, we intend to develop a wider community with sister Earthrise chapters and contributors at other universities, organising events to bring these groups together.

How the Journal Works.

The journal publishes three editions each academic year and accepts submissions of any form, provided they comply with our editorial guidelines. The three editions roughly correspond to the Autumn, Winter, and Spring Terms in the academic year.

Each submission is carefully assessed and then peer-reviewed by two editors, in coordination with the author. Once revisions are completed and approved, the piece is scheduled for publication in one of the three issues.
